An age-old problem gets a new-age solution – Uni-Base Board Cladding
How do you construct a massive 144-bed Aged Care facility, keep on track with budget and on-side with the builders? Answer - Uni-Base Board®. It’s part of the Uni-EIFS™ range by Unitex® and is a lightweight, external wall cladding comprising of pre-coated, reinforced EPS sheets used in conjunction with Unitex Base Board Render and Unitex Textured finish. The system offers externally insulated walls (R-value 2.6), is easy to install and very cost effective.
The new facility designed and built by Visionbuilt Solutions consists of 144 bed accommodation, low and high level nursing and dementia care, recreational facilities, restaurant and kiosk. A wide variety of construction materials such as brick, steel, glass and the rendered Uni-Base Board have been utilised to give the buildings a modern look.
The last thing the builders needed on a project of this scope was materials that were difficult to work with. As Construction Manager Peter Baxter puts it, “With Uni-Base Board, the job got to lock-up quicker than usual, so we could get on with other trades. It’s a very easy product to use, very quick. Warranty and back-up was also very important to us”. Unitex Technical Sales Consultant Bob Rojatrowski was on hand throughout the project to assist with installation advice, “the product is easy to install but it must be done properly to be covered by the 7-year warranty – that’s why we are so involved”.
“It’s easy to say to an applicator how you want it rendered – you get a better finish,” says Visionbuilt Solutions Architect Dean Green. When finished /completed with Unitex Base Board Render and Unitex Texture the result is a flat, weather-proof, attractive facade.
The cost effectiveness of the product means that the developers and backers get a better return on investment and with an ageing population it would seem they’ve made a wise choice.
